I'm a mom of 2 great teens, happily married to Dave for 6 years now.  We live west of Chicago, Illinois with our 5 cats, 2 guinea pigs and 1 dog.  I am profoundly deaf -- I grew up hearing impaired (using hearing aids) and in April 2008 suddenly lost the rest of my hearing.  I don't know sign language but I do lip read pretty well!

I'm having surgery on July 22 to receive a cochlear implant in each ear.  In August 2008 I'll be 'activated' and will officially be a cyborg!  Hopefully the CI's will help me to hear environmental sounds and, if I'm lucky, speech and music.  ::fingers crossed::

Dave and I work from home -- we have a candlemaking business that we just love.  Reading is my absolute favorite hobby.  I've found as I've gotten older than I'm much pickier about the books I read, so I'm a little more discriminating than in my youth.  I belong to the Dear Reader online book club and have discovered a lot of fantastic books that way!

 I tend to read as much (if not more) nonfiction than fiction.  My reading tastes are pretty varied and I usually always have 2 or 3 books on my nightstand!
